We want to establish a rewarding and interesting project based around music and media. The project will offer a variety of skills such as use of studio equipment, song writing techniques, mixing and editing, use of video equipment etc. With the help of YOF/YCF we feel we can deliver an outstanding project which will be very popular with other young people in Croydon regardless of race or gender. We also think that it is a tool to keep young people off the streets and show them that they can enjoy achieve their goals if they are committed and determined. Hopefully it will also allow new friendships to be made, in the current climate it is often difficult for young people to forge relationships with others from different schools etc. The funding would be used to buy the equipment so that we can work in bigger groups. We have access to the main studio room which is already set up but is too cramped to teach large groups in and as we already have quite a lot of people interested in any projects that we intend to deliver we need the right space to do it in. The funding would simply be for the main teaching/class room, and would allow us to work in groups of 18 at a time. The project would be delivered by us young people, for young people. The team at Frosted Ice are all young adults which made learning with them in previous projects a lot easier and they would be there to over see and make sure the project is delivered in the best way possible.
The idea behind the project is to allow and enable us as young people to design, create and market a range of innovative clothing. By working together as a group we will be able to share creative ideas and feed of each other’s strengths while supporting each other. We are really excited about the possibility of getting our project up and running. Part of the project will be having a safe space where young people can come together in a non-confrontational environment, each person will be valued for their unique input. With funding we would be able to buy the necessary equipment and wholesale clothing. We have already looked how to source our needs, inks, vinyl heat press, silk screen press and other products needed to get the project up and running.
Due to the fact that young people often have bad press we feel that it would be a positive thing for local schools/communities to see that we are able to produce a positive range of clothing, inspired by young people of different ethnic backgrounds.
